How to duplicate taxonomies in WordPress?

WP Adminify’s Post Duplicator feature lets you easily duplicate not just posts and pages, but also taxonomies like categories, tags, and custom taxonomies. This saves time when replicating taxonomies with similar properties or settings.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to duplicating any taxonomy in WordPress using this feature:

1. Enable the Post Duplicator Feature

Before duplicating taxonomies, make sure the Post Duplicator feature is enabled:

  • Go to WP Adminify > Productivity > Post Duplicator from the WordPress dashboard.
  • Toggle the switch to Enable the Post Duplicator feature if it isn’t already active.
  • Select the taxonomy you want to enable Post Duplicator for.

2. Navigate to the Taxonomy List

Once the Post Duplicator feature is enabled for your desired taxonomy, navigate to the one you want to duplicate. This could be:

  • Categories: Go to Posts > Categories.
  • Tags: Go to Posts > Tags.
  • Custom Taxonomies: If you are using a custom taxonomy (e.g., product categories for WooCommerce), find it under the relevant section in your WordPress dashboard.

3. Locate the Taxonomy You Want to Duplicate

In the taxonomy management screen:

  • You will see a list of all existing taxonomies (categories, tags, or custom taxonomies).
  • You will see a new option called Adminify Clone appear under the taxonomy name, in the settings.

4. Duplicate the Taxonomy

To duplicate the taxonomy:

  • Click on the Adminify Clone button next to the taxonomy you want to copy.
  • A new taxonomy will be created with the same name (prefixed with "Duplicate"), slug, and description as the original one.

5. Edit the Duplicated Taxonomy (Optional)

After duplicating the taxonomy:

  • The duplicated taxonomy will appear in the list of taxonomies with the same settings.
  • You can edit the name, slug, or description by clicking Edit under the duplicated taxonomy.
  • Make any changes to the taxonomy properties if needed.

6. Save and Use the Duplicated Taxonomy

Once the duplicated taxonomy is created and modified (if necessary):

  • You can now assign it to posts, pages, or custom post types just like any other taxonomy.
  • The new taxonomy will be ready to use across your WordPress site.

Supported Taxonomies

The Post Duplicator feature supports duplicating a variety of taxonomies in WordPress, including:

  • Categories: Useful for organizing posts into different topics.
  • Tags: Helps in tagging posts with relevant keywords.
  • Custom Taxonomies: Created by plugins or themes to categorize custom post types (e.g., WooCommerce product categories).
